Five Things You Can Do with DOOM: The Dark Ages’ Saw Shield

DOOM: The Dark Ages arms players with a host of demon-crushing implements, each with their own methods for cutting the legions of Hell to size. 

Standing at the Slayer at all times on the medieval-inspired dark fantasy battlefields of The Dark Ages, however, is his trusty Shield Saw. A rounded shield studded with razor-sharp blades, the Shield Saw introduces new techniques that allow the Slayer to mow down massive battlefields of demons like never before.

RETURN TO SENDER 

Certain attacks from enemies feature a telltale green glow indicating they are Hell Surge attacks capable of being parried. Block with your Shield Saw at the just the right moment to serve demons a taste of their own medicine! More often than not, they can’t quite take what they can dish. 

GO FORTH AND CHARGE 

While raising his Shield Saw, the Slayer can pick a single target for a Shield Charge, hurtling him towards his prey and bashing shield-first with incredible force. Not only does the impact wipe out lesser fodder demons, the Shield Charge’s impressive speed also makes handy for dodging out of harm’s way when necessary. 

LET FLY THE DISCUS OF DEATH 

Using the Slayer’s superhuman strength, players can chuck the Shield Saw as its blades are spinning to slice fodder in half where they stand, even embedding itself into meatier demons for a grisly stun attack. Throwing the Shield Saw also makes short work of superheated metal, causing a demon’s once-hardy shield or armor plating to shatter! 

TRAVERSE THE LANDSCAPE 

Outside of combat, the Shield Throw also allows the Slayer to lodge the Shield Saw into nodes into the environment to activate mechanisms or trigger its Recall Jump ability to traverse spaces. Keep your eyes peeled: combined with the Shield Charge, the Shield Saw is essential for uncovering many of DOOM: The Dark Age’s secret areas. 

FULLY LOADED 

Exploring levels, completing challenges and discovering secrets will earn players Gold and Rubies to spend at Sentinel Shrines to upgrade their gear. On top of your melee and ranged weapons, the DOOM Slayer can also beef up his Shield Saw, from enhancing its abilities to activating explosive counterattacks in the form of Shield Runes. Despite its defensive origin, a fully upgraded Shield Saw can easily create as much carnage as the rest of DOOM: The Dark Ages’ demon-slaying arsenal!
