DOOM is so much more than a game – it’s a feeling. Even when you’re not playing, elements like the art, sound, ambiance, speed or just plain ‘feel’ of DOOM stick in your brain. In this series, we hand-pick the stuff that we think fans might appreciate and keep them in the MOOD for DOOM.
There is so much music out there that gets us amped up for some DOOM. While we love us some power metal about epic battles or industrial madness that sounds like it could summon demons in real life, there’s nothing quite like putting on some badass rock ‘n’ roll.
And Motörhead is about as rock ‘n’ roll as rock ‘n’ roll gets. The English band helped define in-your-face music in 1975 and never took their foot off the pedal since. With lyrics telling tales of hard livin’, fast rolling basslines, raw guitars, thumping drums and the inimitable gravel-throated voice of Lemmy Kilmister, Motörhead’s influence on the heavy metal and punk genres make it challenging to find a hard rock act these days that doesn’t have at least have some Motör under the hood.
What’s this got to do with DOOM? Well, the rebellious sound of Motörhead thematically syncs with DOOM - and not just because the original DOOM was also influential. Even today, the aggressive gameplay, hard-hitting weapons and just the slightest smirk amidst the bloody revelry of DOOM just begs for a scrappy in-your-face sound like Motörhead’s in the background.
It doesn’t matter your age or taste in music – you listen to a song called “Killed by Death” and tell us you don’t feel the urge to crack an empty bottle over a Hell Knight’s head.
