Bringing DOOM Eternal’s Sentinel Hammer TO LIFE!
By: Jonny Roses
The DOOM community has a long history of creating their own epic, real-life gear inspired by the DOOM franchise. Today, we're excited to add this timely entry to the list!
For the release of DOOM Eternal: The Ancient Gods - Part Two, we teamed up with Australian prop making duo “Hench and Scrap Foundry” to recreate a 1:1 replica of the DOOM Slayer’s Sentinel Hammer. This mighty weapon forms an important part of DOOM Eternal’s final campaign expansion, so what better way to celebrate its release than to bring it to life?
Hench and Scrap Foundry shared some insight into the process that went behind making this glorious weapon:
“To make the Sentinel Hammer, we first needed to painstakingly create the model to include a huge amount of detail and clarity, and then utilise two kinds of 3D print technology: FDM and SLA resin. After the printing was complete, we then carefully applied finishes and integrated complex electronics and a massive aluminium handle, before turning our attention to the final paint job. It turns out that harnessing Wraith Energy is quite the task!”
The final product is sized at monstrous 1.4 metres high and 0.63 metres wide, perfectly suitable for any DOOM Slayer about to take on the armies of Hell. To learn more about exactly how the Sentinel Hammer was constructed, check out the epic behind-the-scenes video below. And don’t forget, DOOM Eternal: The Ancient Gods – Part 2 is out now!
