After 25 years, a series like DOOM is guaranteed to collect its share of fun facts and interesting trivia. Thankfully, you don’t have to be the world’s most dedicated fan or a development insider to learn some of the coolest stuff about this franchise – you have us!

id Software once shared a (very thin) wall with a dentist’s office while making the original DOOM

“You could hear the sound of the drill and stuff,” says Kevin Cloud, who worked as an artist on the game back in 1993. Cloud went on to explain that sometimes the development team would often crank up their music to drown out the noise, which then sometimes lead to the dentist coming next door to complain.

While id Software no longer shares office space with any dental practitioners (that we know of) one must wonder if being in such proximity to a place often associated with pain and terror by many people had an influence on the original DOOM. Perhaps that’s why the Cacodemons have such messed-up chompers?

Anyway, much like a pack of charging Pinkies, gingivitis ain’t a pretty sight. Make sure you Slayers at home practice the B.F.G.s’ of proper oral hygiene: Brush, Floss and Gargle with mouthwash!
