A fantastic addition DOOM (2016) brought to the series is the Glory Kill. By performing especially brutal close quarters kills in exchange for extra health, armor and ammo, the game encouraged players to get real friendly with enemies instead of just slinging bullets from a distance.
With DOOM Eternal preparing to bring even more feats of gruesome athleticism to the party, it’s a good time to take a look at some of our favorite finishers.
There are brutal Glory Kills, there are efficient Glory Kills and then there’s Glory Kills where you just tear an enemy’s arm off and slap him in the face with it. One of the many delightful ways to dispatch the Possessed Scientists wandering around the UAC, this disarming finisher is hard to beat for its humiliation factor.
The kicker here is just how nonchalant the Slayer goes about his utter backhanding of these shambling demons. Just, rrrip! smack! and it’s on to the next one. It’s also noting how the arm comes off as easily as it were held on with cheap glue and the distance the Glory Kill’d foe flies from just the sheer force of the Slayer’s slap. On top of its mix of humor and humiliation, this Glory Kill also shows the massive gap in strength between some of DOOM’s demons and its unstoppable protagonist.
