A fantastic addition DOOM (2016) brought to the series is the Glory Kill. By performing especially brutal close quarters kills in exchange for extra health, armor and ammo, the game encouraged players to get real friendly with enemies instead of just slinging bullets from a distance.
With DOOM Eternal preparing to bring even more feats of gruesome athleticism to the party, it’s a good time to take a look at some of our favorite finishers.
1. Bop It!
Want to witness the raw superhuman strength of the Slayer at work? Look no further than this delightful Glory Kill from DOOM Eternal, wherein our hero simply bops an enemy on the head – causing the aforementioned head to essentially become part of the torso. Hey look ma, no neck!
What really sells this fantastically satisfying power move are the little details. Note the demon’s expression as he realizes what fate is about to befall him. Check out the impact crater right over the frontal lobe area. If you’ve ever wondered what would happen to your jaw if it impacted your collarbone at speed, spoiler alert: it kinda comes off.
With its perfect blend of the powerful, the gruesome and the slightly comical, this popcorn horror show of a Glory Kill just screams DOOM. (Or rather, tries to – it’s hard to yell with your jaw jammed into your clavicle.)
