A fantastic addition DOOM (2016) brought to the series is the Glory Kill. By performing especially brutal close quarters kills in exchange for extra health, armor and ammo, the game encouraged players to get real friendly with enemies instead of just slinging bullets from a distance.
With DOOM Eternal preparing to bring even more feats of gruesome athleticism to the party, it’s a good time to take a look at some of our favorite finishers.
The final battle with the Spider Mastermind in DOOM (2016) is intense, challenging and requires the Slayer to use just about every tool in his arsenal to survive.
It’s all worth it, however, thanks to the reward of (on top of beating the game) an absolutely delightful Glory Kill finishing off the Mastermind.
As she finally lies stunned on the ground, the Slayer strides up, pries open her maw, and jams the absurdly large barrel of the BFG 9000, pulls the trigger and unleashes the full force of DOOM’s most powerful weapon at point blank range.
The result is a spectacular reorganization of the Spider Mastermind’s exposed, pulsating brain, replacing its entire central region with, well, nothing. The Mastermind is a tough boss, but there’s no way in any version of Hell that she’s getting back up from that.
