It’s hard to believe that 2019 is almost over! ‘Auld Lang Syne’ is great and all, but we think the official Slayers Club Spotify playlist has the tunes we need to cap off the year DOOM-style.

Where to start? Try these hand-selected tracks, complete with comments by the id Software team members who get pumped up by these jams:

Kneel Before the Steel - Exmortus

“This is a fast-paced, high energy song that gets my blood pumping every time. It's great to listen to in the mornings to get me psyched up and ready for the day.”

  • Gary Matthews, Associate Environmental Artist

The Killchain – Bolt Thrower

“This is about a warrior using technology to systematically identify and eradicate his enemy. Extremely thematic.”

  • Aaron Tygart, Senior DevOps Programmer

Ace of Spades – Lisa LeBlanc

*“The banjo in this cover takes the Motörhead classic and dirties it up, reminding me of the chainsaw's place in the DOOM arsenal and DOOM's place in the gaming collective consciousness.”

  • Alex Whitfield, Associate Gameplay Designer

Change – Monkey Majik & Yoshida Brothers

“Merging classic gameplay with new ideas is at the heart of what we do. This song serves as an inspiration of how to get that done through its stylish combination of classical music and modern beats.”

  • Roberto Garcia-Largo, Systems Designer

The Unthinking Majority – Serj Tankian

“This single from Serj Tankian’s solo album is equal parts disturbing and a hell of a lot of fun to listen to – fitting given he’s the frontman for System of a Down. The song balances politically charged lyrics and emotional pleas with a headbanging good time and catchy rhythms. It may not be commenting on society the same way as Tankian, but DOOM also puts thought behind its aggression. It’s not randomly loud and angry for the sake of being loud and angry.”
