Rule the skies aboard your Mecha Dragon in DOOM: The Dark Ages

By: Parker Wilhelm

A vicious-looking dragon spreads its cybernetic wings and roars.

It’s an all-out war between good and evil, stepping across the bounds of worlds beyond, in DOOM: The Dark Ages. As the super weapon of gods and kings, the DOOM Slayer must face the legions of Hell on the frontlines, wherever they emerge. When there’s lots of ground to cover and even more demons to slay, it’s time to take the fight to the skies!

In DOOM: The Dark Ages, certain moments will have the Slayer join up with his loyal Mecha Dragon, Serrat. Together, the duo will navigate the level together, laying waste to enemies from the skies and allowing the Slayer to disembark at key locations for a precision strike.

Just like in Slayer combat, Hell Surge attacks from foes can be responded to while piloting Serrat. Instead of parrying these projectiles, however, Serrat can evade the attack with a swift dodge. Dodging these attacks also supercharges your mounted cannons, making short work of the enemies (and even their shielding!)

The Slayer rides his Dragon full throttle towards a demon-controlled warship.

Your Mecha Dragon is also equipped with thrusters capable of boosting to jet fighter speeds. This comes in handy when closing in targets, as well as increasing the fire rate of your cannons to ensure demon bogies don’t stay airborne long.

Out of combat, be sure to look around - not just for the majestic sightseeing that comes with riding Serrat, but also for possible landing areas. On top of zones where the two of you come crashing down on hapless demon hordes, there are also places off the beaten path where the Slayer may come across a secret area.

With the speed to traverse DOOM: The Dark Ages’ aerial maps and firepower to match, you’ll soon find your winged pal has plenty to offer in the Slayer’s campaign against Hell!

DOOM: The Dark Ages is available May 15 for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, Steam, and PlayStation 5 – play it day one with Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass. Play it on both Series X|S and Xbox PC at no additional cost with Xbox Play Anywhere. For more information, visit DOOM.com
